The Evolution of Shower Trays
Shower trays come in an array of shapes and sizes and provide the foundation to any shower enclosure. Shapes include square, rectangular, pentagonal, quadrants and offset quadrants with sizes ranging from 760mm x 760mm upwards and 800mm quadrants upwards with a 55mm radius. Shower trays can be used as part of a full enclosure with either a pivot door or sliding door or be used in conjunction with a walk in shower enclosure, should space permit.
In the past shower trays were always seen as commodity items, a product that was necessary in being able to create a shower enclosure and with it the standard colours were white, pergamon and soft cream and the only option a customer had on style was to add legs or not. Shower trays with legs sit higher than those without and are easier to plumb due to the increased amount of space beneath the tray.
In recent years the 80's colours of pergamon and soft cream shower trays have been removed from the market and a new trend has been seen in the concept of the shower tray being a designer product. 2008 saw the introduction of the markets first 40mm shower tray in gloss and matt white, a slim line tray that looked stunning in every shape and size, coupled with a 90mm waste, the largest seen on a shower tray to ensure the maximum removal of water and prevent flooding. These trays were designed to compliment the enclosure and produce a modern and stylish en suite and bathroom suite.
One area that we are beginning to see more of is in the introduction of light weight shower trays that are easier to transport, handle and manipulate into place. Currently, some shower trays incur a two man delivery, and with it an increased charge from many retailers, coupled with the increased risk of breakages through handling errors. This has also posed problems with delivery companies offering a 'to the door? service, leaving the consumer with the arduous task of taking the shower tray to their bathroom suite or en suite by themselves with full responsibility for any damages incurred. Light weight shower trays not only solve these handling issues but do not compromise the aesthetics, or the overall structure of the tray, meaning that it won't let you down when put under pressure.
Early 2009 saw the next biggest break through from with the introduction of a range of vibrant coloured shower trays, offering a range of modern colours including coal, grey, lace, magma, ocean and pebble, each with an individual fleck that reflects in the light. These colours are designed to offer another fashion accessory to the bathroom as already seen in the various designs and styles of bathroom suites and bathroom furniture, giving the consumer the opportunity to add various colours to the room and allowing the shower tray to complement the arrangement as apposed to the standard tray, which was an essential item as apposed to a desirable one.
The shower tray has seen a massive transformation in the opportunity to integrate style and design into the room and the latest designs and colours offered to manufacturers allows consumers to add a touch of flair to their en suite and bathroom suite.
