California Sculptor Receives Award for 'Pan With His iPod'

(PRWEB) May 31, 2008 -- California bay area sculptor Adam Reeder won 1st place for figurative sculpture in The San Francisco Academy of Art University's Annual Spring Show for his sculpture: "Pan With His iPod". The awards ceremony was May 22, 2008.

The sculpture, "Pan With His iPod" is part of a larger body of work that shows how technology changes the way western culture interacts with its world.

Adam said about his sculpture: "In mythology Pan played his flute and danced in the woods. In my sculpture, the flute is replaced with an iPod. The nature of Pan hasn't changed, but the context in which he is seen has changed. The technology has changed what Pan is doing."

Adam's masters thesis through The San Francisco Academy of Art University is based on a series of sculptures where mythological or classical figures are used to represent Western culture and are combined with modern technological objects to illustrate how technology has changed the way people interact.

The entire series of sculptures with the theme "How Technology Changes the Way Western Culture Interacts With It's World", will be finished by Spring of 2009. Others in the series that will soon be finished are: "The Sleeping Satyr", "The Dying Gaul" and "Zeus"

Adam is a professional sculptor who has sold out of several editions of sculptures. Adam sculpts mainly figurative sculptures and those sculptures are usually cast in bronze.

Adam has recently been juried into The 2008 National Competition for Figurative Sculpture by The National Sculpture Society. The competition is co-sponsored by The Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, Brookgreen Gardens and The New York Academy of Art. The competition is held in Lyme, Connecticut. Of all the applicants nationwide, only 12 are accepted into the competition.
